Chipmaker Qualcomm may be gearing up to launch its own gaming smartphones as early as in December. As per a report by DigiTimes, Qualcomm is partnering with Asus to launch a new series of gaming smartphones with its own branding.
Qualcomm is hosting its Snapdragon Tech Summit in December where it is expected to launch its flagship “Snapdragon” 875 processor along with several chipsets for affordable handsets.
Asus has been a partner of Qualcomm for its ROG series of “gaming phones” and the latest ROG Phone 3 runs Snapdragon 865+ processor.
It is expected that Asus would be offered the next ROG flagship phone with the upcoming 875 processor, and if at all Qualcomm launches its own “gaming smartphones”, there would be no better partner than Asus.
Several reports and rumors have suggested that the new Snapdragon 875 processor will be based on the new 5nm architecture core and its likely to be the fastest and most powerful Qualcomm processor to date.
Rumors have also suggested that the upcoming flagship SoC from the company might come with multiple LTE options to keep the “increasing price” of smartphones in check.
Also, we can expect to see flagship Qualcomm features in several smartphones from “Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Asus, and other OEMs”.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm recently announced another “5G mobile chipset” in its 7 series- the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G. The new Snapdragon 750G features Qualcomm Snapdragon X52 5G modem-RF system and is said to support both mmWave and sub-6 GHz, SA, and NSA modes, TDD, FDD and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS), and global roaming and global multi-SIM.
It’s equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite “gaming features” along with Qualcomm Adreno 619 GPU which, the company says, offers up to 10% better graphics rendering compared to Snapdragon 730G.
